Step-by-Step Instructions for Installation and Activation

Step 1: Install Remote Desktop Services Role

1. Open Server Manager.

2. Click on Manage and select Add Roles and Features.

3. Select Role-based or feature-based installation and choose the target server.

4. In the Select server roles window, check Remote Desktop Services.

5. Continue with the wizard and install the required roles and features.

Step 2: Configure Remote Desktop Licensing

1. Open Server Manager and select Remote Desktop Services from the dashboard.

2. Click on RD Licensing and select Add RD Licensing Servers.

3. Select the server you want to configure for RD Licensing and complete the setup.

Step 3: Install RDS CALs

1. Open Server Manager, click on Tools, and select Remote Desktop Licensing Manager.

2. In the Licensing Manager, right-click on the server name and choose Activate Server.

3. Follow the wizard to activate your server. You can activate it via Internet or Telephone.

Step 4: Add RDS User or Device CALs

1. After activating, right-click on the server again and select Install Licenses.

2. Select the license type (User or Device CAL) and enter your license key provided by Microsoft.

3. Complete the process and install the licenses.

Step 5: Verify License Installation

1. In the Remote Desktop Licensing Manager, check the status of the licenses.

2. Ensure that the correct number of licenses is displayed and that they are active.

Step 6: Configure RDS Licensing Mode

1. Open Server Manager, go to Remote Desktop Services and select RD Licensing.

2. Choose either Per User or Per Device based on your license type.

3. Apply the changes and make sure your licensing mode matches the type of CALs you have installed.
